GFC
Sustainable Fuels Book-and-Claim System
Focusing on the Credibility, Traceability, and International Recognition of Green Fuels' Environmental Attributes

The GFC system

The GFC system consists of two parts:
I. The Rulebook: Drafted by the Technical Working Group, the Rulebook serves as the top-level design of the GFC system. It defines the sustainability criteria for fuel eligibility and the methodologies for calculating lifecycle emissions and emission reductions. It also establishes mechanisms such as additionality, account permissions, information tracking, and disclosure, in order to minimize the risk of double counting environmental attributes and to safeguard the integrity and credibility of environmental attribute certificates.

II. The Registry: The GFC Registry is a digital platform whose basic unit is a GFC (acronym for Green Fuel Certificate). One GFC represents the environmental attributes of one metric ton of unblended (neat) sustainable fuel. The issuance, holding, transfer, and retirement of GFCs are all conducted within the GFC Registry.
