Dataset description
Rare Earth Oxides (REO) obtained through the bastnaesite route from ores containing Rare Earth Elements (REE) are pivotal in various high-tech and clean energy applications. These include manufacturing powerful permanent magnets used in wind turbines and electric vehicles, crafting advanced electronics, formulating catalysts, and producing glass and polishing compounds.
Technology description
Because no primary mining data from Bayan Obo were available, LCI data in the studies (Sprecher, Arshi, Marx, Bailey (Classen et al., 2007)) are based on different data sources either from iron mining or in Althaus from phosphate rock mining. Main inputs are energy and blasting agent
Geographic context
Bayan Obo, Chinese Southern Provinces
